OPEN CALL TO PARTY ON PAPER
POST CUTS is a DIY and self-funded (for now) project aimed at being a happy, no-frills channel for sharing and showcasing art and creative juices to others.
BACKGROUND
What started as a DIY art zine, the idea came about during the creation of OUTPOST event, where we wanted a way to reward attendees who contributed money to the music & art party with more art (instead of the usual first drink coupon or nothing you get at party entries).
Six artists contributed A6 size artwork each which was somewhat aligned to the theme of “Outpost”, up to their own interpretation. The works were laid out, printed and folded into the OUTPOST zine.
The OUTPOST event was entry by contribution, and the first 25 people to contribute $10 and above received a special goodie bag which included the OUTPOST zine.
Response was good, and we were happy at the nature of the exchange! Artists get to share their art, we get to ogle at people’s work and party-goers get to check out new artists and interesting pieces.
NOW
We decided to change the zine to postcards, and we decided to call it POST CUTS! This gives more room for exchange and fun. People can paste the postcards on their wall, give to their friends, use as coasters, fan themselves, frame it up, etc. The possibilities are endless….
DISTRIBUTION
X number of sets will be prepared and given out as gifts for those who attends/contribute to a Heliotropika event. There will be no commission for artists out of this first sets.
More sets will be made post-event and these will be sold at $10 at future Heliotropika events and selected channels (TBC). For each set sold, each artist will get $1.
HELIOTROPIKA - WHAT SORTA EVENTS?
We like to produce unique events that are born out of creative one night stands at magical places and flourishes into meaningful relationships.
In other words, we team up with 1 artist/art collective AND 1 musician/music collective at an interesting venue to conjure up a one-off event that is distinct and memorable. Casual (fun, and as unpretentious as we can be), creative gatherings at unorthodox spaces.
We’re aiming to do an event once every 2 months. Currently, we run things in DIY-or-die / jjust-do-it manner.
Might change in the future when we get super broke or when people realize they should be paying us for this!

Submissions are to be in A6 size, minimum 300 dpi for print. Both new and existing works are welcomed.
We do not have any strict guidelines as to what is accepted, but we will use our discretion when selecting artists and artworks, to find a balance between showcasing interesting/new art and artists with the vibe of the project.
